World Cup Qualifiers: Dosu, Ushurhe Lament Eagles Poor Performance

Ex International, Joseph Dosu has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Super Eagles against Liberia and Cape Verde at the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

Although the senior national team have booked a place in the last phase of the qualifying stage Dosu said he is not convinced if the Eagles can qualify for the World Cup proper with the unimpressive performance put on in their last two matches in the world cup qualifying group matches.

In a chat with our correspondent, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist said watching Eagles nowadays is giving many Nigerian soccer fans hypertension saying that the coaching crew led by embattled Gernot Rohr needs to wake from their slumber.

“The Coach should know what to do. He has been in Nigeria for more than five years and the Eagles are still struggling to win a match. Funny enough, we struggle with a country that we suppose to win comfortably, I think Rohr needs to wake up before it is too late,” he said.

Dosu said football fans no longer enjoy the Eagles match again because the team are not inspiring and respected by any African country. He said it would take the grace of God for Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup proper because their potential opponents may be tougher and dangerous.

“Many football fans are praying that Nigeria should draw with DR Congo. Can we even beat DR Congo with this inspiring performance? The only thing I can say is that I wish them the best of luck in their next match,” he said.

In his own remark, Nigerian US-based football coach, Anthony Ushurhe blasted Eagles for playing to the gallery against Cape Verde saying that Eagles need to raise the bar if they want to make it to the world cup proper.

“The performance of Eagles was not good enough because they underrated Cape Verde in the encounter. Their performance was not convincing Nigerian football fans if truly they are ready for World Cup. Coach Rohr has a lot of work to do on the players because failure to meet the mandate given by Nigeria Football Federation should warrant outright sack,” he said.

Meanwhile Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, has debunked reports making the rounds that the Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has been sacked.
